Ingredients
Scale
1 sleeve of saltine crackers (or any plain crackers)
1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
1 cup crushed candy canes or sprinkles (for topping)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil for easy removal.
Lay the saltine crackers in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
In a medium saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar over medium heat. Stir continuously until the mixture comes to a boil. Let it boil for 2-3 minutes without stirring.
Carefully pour the hot toffee mixture over the crackers, spreading it evenly with a spatula.
Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 5-7 minutes, or until the toffee is bubbly.
Remove the baking sheet from the oven and sprinkle the chocolate chips on top of the hot toffee. Let them sit for a couple of minutes to soften.
Once the chocolate is melted, use a spatula to spread it evenly over the toffee layer.
Sprinkle the chopped nuts and crushed candy canes or sprinkles over the melted chocolate before it sets.
Allow the candy to cool at room temperature for about 30 minutes, or until the chocolate is firm.
Once the candy is set, break it into pieces and store in an airtight container.
