Treat your mornings to a little luxury with this Crème Brûlée French Toast—golden, custardy, and caramelized just like the classic dessert.

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf brioche or challah, thickly sliced
  • 5 large eggs
  • 1½ cups whole milk
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 1 Tbsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 2 Tbsp butter (for greasing)
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar (for brûlée topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F).
  2. Grease a baking dish with butter. Layer the bread slices in slightly overlapping rows.
  3. In a bowl, whisk eggs, milk, cream, vanilla, brown sugar, and salt. Pour evenly over the bread.
  4. Let sit 15–30 minutes, or refrigerate overnight for deeper flavor.
  5. Bake uncovered for 35–40 minutes until puffed and golden.
  6. Sprinkle granulated sugar on top and broil for 2–3 minutes until bubbly and caramelized.
  7. Cool slightly, then serve warm with fresh fruit or maple syrup.
