  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F/43°C)
  • 2 ¼ tsp instant yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ⅓ cup baking soda
  • ½ cup pesto sauce (homemade or store-bought)
  • ½ cup melted butter
  • 3 cloves minced garlic

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and instant yeast; let sit for 5 minutes until foamy. Gradually add flour and salt; knead for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  2. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
  3. Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope (20 inches) and twist into a knot shape on parchment-lined baking sheets.
  4. Bring a pot of water to boil; add baking soda carefully. Boil each knot for about 30 seconds on each side before transferring back to the baking sheet.
  5. Brush each knot with melted garlic butter then drizzle generously with pesto.
  6. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Bake knots for about 15 minutes until golden brown. Serve warm.
