- 4 large onions
- 1 pound ground beef or turkey
- 1 cup cooked rice (or quinoa)
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Olive oil for drizzling
- Fresh herbs for garnish (optional)
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Peel the onions and cut off the tops. Carefully hollow out the insides, leaving a thick base to hold the stuffing.
- In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef or turkey. Drain any excess fat.
- In a bowl, mix the cooked meat with rice, cheese, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Generously fill each hollowed onion with the meat mixture, pressing it down gently to pack it in.
- Place the stuffed onions in a baking dish. Drizzle olive oil over the top of each onion.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 40 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes, allowing the tops to brown slightly.
- Ensure the onions are tender and the filling is heated through.
- Remove from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
Notes
- Adjust seasonings based on your taste.
- Experiment with different types of cheese.
- Use quinoa for a healthier alternative.
