This easy slow cooker Salisbury steak recipe features tender beef patties smothered in a rich, savory mushroom gravy. It’s a simple, comforting meal perfect for busy weeknights or family dinners, with minimal effort required.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
  • 2 tablespoons water (optional, for thickening)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, finely chopped onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
  2. Form the mixture into oval-shaped patties, about 1/2 inch thick.
  3. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and brown the patties on both sides (about 3-4 minutes per side). This step is optional but adds flavor.
  4. Place the browned patties in the slow cooker.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix together the cream of mushroom soup and beef broth. Pour the mixture over the patties in the slow cooker.
  6. Add the sliced onion and mushrooms on top of the patties.
  7. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours, until the patties are cooked through and tender.
  8. If you prefer a thicker gravy, mix the cornstarch with water in a small bowl to create a slurry. About 30 minutes before serving, stir this mixture into the slow cooker and let it cook until thickened.
  9. Serve the Salisbury steak with the gravy over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles. Enjoy!
