This recipe features a creamy spinach and artichoke dip served in a hollowed-out bread loaf, decorated to resemble a graveyard with edible toppings. It’s an easy-to-make, visually stunning centerpiece that will impress your guests.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (10 oz) package frozen chopped spinach, thawed and drained
  • 1 (14 oz) can artichoke hearts, drained and chopped
  • 1 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Black olives, for decoration
  • Cherry tomatoes, for decoration
  • Crackers, chips, or veggies for dipping
  • 1 large round bread loaf (sourdough or similar)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cut the top off the bread loaf and hollow out the inside, creating a bowl. Set aside the bread pieces for later dipping.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the thawed spinach, artichoke hearts, cream cheese, sour cream, mayonnaise, mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese, minced garlic, onion powder, and salt. Stir until well combined.
  4. Spoon the spinach mixture into the hollowed-out bread bowl, spreading it evenly.
  5. Place the filled bread bowl on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes, or until the dip is hot and bubbly.
  6. After removing the dip from the oven, let it cool slightly. Decorate the top to create a graveyard scene: use black olives to create tombstones and cherry tomatoes for little ghosts or spiders.
  7. Arrange the reserved bread pieces, along with chips and veggies, around the dip for dipping.

Notes

  • For best flavor, use fresh ingredients when possible.
  • The dip can be made a day in advance and baked before serving.
  • Add crushed red pepper flakes for a spicy kick or chopped sun-dried tomatoes for a gourmet touch.
  • Ensure spinach is thoroughly drained to avoid a watery dip.
  • For a gluten-free option, serve with gluten-free dippers and check ingredient labels.
  • Fresh spinach can be sautéed before mixing for enhanced flavor.
  • Adjust seasonings to your taste preferences.
