Easy and flavorful Sweet Chili Meatballs made in a crockpot. This recipe is perfect for busy weeknights or casual gatherings, offering a hands-off meal with incredible results. The tender meatballs simmer in a tangy-sweet chili sauce for a delicious appetizer or main dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup sweet chili sauce
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions (for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the meatball mixture: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, egg, minced garlic, minced ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly until well combined.
  2. Form the meatballs: Roll the mixture into 1-inch meatballs and set them aside on a tray or plate.
  3. Prepare the crockpot: Lightly spray the inside of your crockpot with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  4. Add meatballs to crockpot: Place the meatballs in the bottom of the crockpot in a single layer. If they don’t fit all at once, you can layer them.
  5. Pour sweet chili sauce: Pour the sweet chili sauce evenly over the meatballs, ensuring they are well coated.
  6. Cook: Set the crockpot on low for 4 to 6 hours or high for 2 to 3 hours. The meatballs are ready when they are cooked through and have absorbed the delicious sauce.
  7. Serve: Once cooked, gently stir the meatballs to coat them further in the sauce.
  8. Garnish: Before serving, sprinkle with chopped green onions and sesame seeds, if desired.
  9. Enjoy: Serve them straight from the crockpot or transfer to a serving platter.

Notes

  • Experiment with spice by adding red pepper flakes or hot sauce to the meat mixture.
  • Use fresh garlic and ginger for enhanced flavor.
  • Prepare meatballs a day in advance and store them in the refrigerator until ready to cook.
  • Substitute ground turkey for a leaner option.
  • Use plant-based ground meat or lentils for a vegetarian version.
  • Mix sweet chili sauce with vinegar for a sweet and sour variation.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
  • Freeze cooked meatballs for up to 3 months.
