Ingredients
Scale
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup granulated sugar
½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup milk
½ cup vegetable oil
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 ½ cups hot water
Instructions
Grease the inside of your Crock-Pot with cooking spray or butter to prevent sticking.
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
Pour the milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract into the dry mixture. Stir until just combined; do not overmix.
Gently fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips, distributing them evenly throughout the batter.
Carefully pour the batter into the prepared Crock-Pot, spreading it evenly.
Slowly pour the hot water over the batter; do not stir. This will create the gooey chocolate layer at the bottom.
Place the lid on the Crock-Pot and cook on high for 2 to 2.5 hours or on low for 4 to 5 hours, until the top is set and the edges pull away from the sides.
Insert a toothpick into the center; it should come out mostly clean, with a few moist crumbs attached.
Once cooked, turn off the Crock-Pot. Allow it to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Serve warm for the best texture.
This dessert pairs well with vanilla ice cream.
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge.
