Chuck’s Favorite Mac and Cheese is a creamy and cheesy dish that is simple to prepare.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 ounces elbow macaroni
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the elbow macaroni and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. In the same pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, whisk in the flour and cook for about 1 minute until bubbly.
  3. Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring continuously to avoid lumps. Cook until the mixture thickens, about 3-5 minutes.
  4. Remove the pot from heat and stir in the cheddar and mozzarella cheeses until melted and smooth.
  5. Add the garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir to combine.
  6. Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce and mix well until all pasta is coated.
  7. If you prefer a baked version, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Pour the mac and cheese into a greased baking dish.
  8. Sprinkle breadcrumbs on top for a crunchy topping.
  9. Bake for 20 minutes or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  10. Enjoy the mac and cheese hot, straight from the pot or baking dish.

Notes

  • Feel free to adjust the cheese types based on your preference.
  • Add cooked bacon or vegetables for extra flavor.
