Crispy Baked Orange Chicken is a delightful dish featuring juicy chicken coated in a crunchy panko crust and tossed in a tangy orange sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  2. Cut the chicken into bite-sized pieces and set aside.
  3. In a bowl, combine the flour, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  4. In another bowl, whisk the egg until well beaten.
  5. Place the panko breadcrumbs in a third shallow dish.
  6. Dredge each piece of chicken in the flour mixture, dip it into the egg wash, and then coat it in the panko breadcrumbs.
  7. Place the coated chicken pieces on the prepared baking sheet. Drizzle with olive oil for extra crispiness.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through, flipping halfway through for even cooking.
  9. In a saucepan, combine orange juice, orange zest, honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and sesame oil. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
  10. In a small bowl, mix cornstarch with water to create a slurry. Add this to the sauce and stir until thickened.
  11. Once the chicken is cooked, remove it from the oven and drizzle the orange sauce over the crispy pieces.
  12. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and sliced green onions if desired.

Notes

  • Adjust the sweetness of the sauce by adding more or less honey.
  • For extra flavor, marinate the chicken in soy sauce for 30 minutes before cooking.
  • Serve with steamed rice or vegetables for a complete meal.
