- 4 large Russet potatoes
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 2 cloves garlic
- to taste salt
- to taste pepper
- 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 cup Gruyère cheese
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- to taste fresh parsley or chives
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Prepare the potatoes by washing and slicing them thinly, about 1/8 inch thick.
- Layer half of the sliced potatoes in a greased baking dish, slightly overlapping them.
- Mix together heavy cream, garlic, salt, and pepper in a bowl until combined. Pour half of this mixture over the first layer of potatoes.
- Sprinkle half of your favorite cheese blend on top of the cream-covered potatoes.
- Repeat with another layer of potatoes, followed by the remaining cream mix and cheese.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- Uncover and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, until the top is bubbly and golden brown.
- Optional: Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
