Ingredients
Scale
4 large yellow onions
1 cup heavy cream
1 cup shredded Asiago cheese
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
Salt and pepper to taste
Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Prepare the Onions: Peel the onions and slice them in half. Remove the inner layers carefully, creating a hollow space in each half.
Make the Cheese Sauce: In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until golden. Gradually whisk in the heavy cream, mixing until smooth. Add the garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Continue to whisk until thickened.
Add Cheeses: Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the Asiago and Parmesan cheese until melted and well combined.
Fill the Onions: Place the onion halves in a baking dish. Spoon the cheese sauce generously into each onion half, ensuring they are well filled.
Bake: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the onions are tender and the cheese is golden and bubbly.
Garnish and Serve: Once baked, remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
