Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb Ground Beef or Ground Turkey
  • 1 Packet Taco Seasoning Mix
  • 1/4 Cup Water
  • 8 Small Tortillas (Flour or Corn)
  • 1 Cup Shredded Cheddar or Mexican Cheese Blend
  • 1 Cup Shredded Lettuce
  • 1/2 Cup Salsa
  • Optional: Sour cream, avocado or guacamole, chopped tomatoes, hot sauce

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add ground beef or turkey and cook, breaking it up, until no longer pink (5-7 minutes).
  3. Drain excess grease if using beef.
  4. Sprinkle taco seasoning over the meat, add water, and stir well.
  5. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 2-3 minutes, allowing flavors to meld and sauce to thicken.
  6. While the meat simmers, warm the tortillas (microwave or skillet method).
  7. Keep warm tortillas wrapped in a clean kitchen towel.
  8. Set out the seasoned meat, warm tortillas, and all toppings for a DIY taco bar.
  9. Assemble and enjoy your taco night!

Notes

  • For a leaner option, use ground turkey and add a splash of olive oil if needed.
  • If you don’t have a taco seasoning packet, mix 1 tbsp chili powder, 1 1/2 tsp cumin, 1 tsp garlic powder, 1 tsp paprika, and 1/2 tsp oregano.
  • Lightly char corn tortillas over a gas burner for extra flavor.
  • Keep warm tortillas wrapped in a towel to maintain pliability.
  • This recipe is great for meal prep; cook the meat ahead and store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
